Reinsurance-2000
According to a research published in the previous issue of the "Insurance Market" bulletin, the greatest amount of contributions paid for reinsurance belongs to foreign reinsurers (about 75 per cent). The Russian specialized reinsurance companies receive about six per cent, the insurance companies acquiring some 19 per cent of the volume. At that time we have been making analyses on the basis of annual financial and statistical reporting by the insurance companies, obtaining rather gross miscalculations due to discrepancies. The point is that the differences in the figures of the statistical form 1-C and the Profit and Loss Statement of an insurance company are connected not only with the fact that the former reflects solely contributions for direct insurance, the latter accounting for summary contributions of a company, but also with the fact that the statistical accounting contains preliminary data whereas the financial one covers the final data. We have received information about reinsurance transferred directly from the leading Russian reinsurers, including two questions into the summery questionnaire for this purpose: insurance contributions and insurance payments for the reinsurance accepted.
As a result, for the first time, we managed to execute a perfect comparison of reinsuring activities of specialized reinsurance companies and common-type insurance companies.
A chart of 30 Russian major reinsurers contains 10 reinsurance companies and 20 - insurance companies. A traditional leader among specialized companies is the Industrial reinsurance company which is part of the "Lukoil" insurance group. A "discovery of the year" in the reinsurance market is the "Univers Re", a company set up not long ago. The "Lukoil", "Ingosstrakh" and ROSNO are leaders amongst the insurers based on reinsurance contributions collected.
